Hybrid - photowhich went through various filters and manual adjustments to make a more stylized look.

Photographers mix there desgin and type elements.

Today is called the "photographic clutlure"

Inside out is a one way change in nature and society.

McLuhan had a simialr idea that the new media first emulates old media.

The comcept of uneven development can be useful in thinking about the changes in visual culture.

The Matrix is a good example for thinking further about these issues.

The movie shows how the visual universe is made.

"The key to the visual universe of the Matrix trilogy is the new set of computer graphic process that over the years were developed by John Gaeda and his colleagues at ESC." (Matrix reading)

"Not only every simulated image has to be consistent internally, with the casted shadows corresponding to the light sources, and so on, but now it also has to be consistent with the cinematography of a film." (Matrix reading)

In the 1980s a few films were made with computer images but a very small amount of it.

That all changes in the 1990s when Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 came out.

"Rather than treating sampling reality as just one technique to be used along with many other “proper” algorithmic techniques of image synthesis, Gaeda turned it into the key foundation of his process. The process systematically takes physical reality apart and then systematically reassembles the elements into a virtual computer-based representation. The result is a new kind of image that has photographic/cinematographic appearance and level of detail yet internally is structured in a completely different way." (Matrix Reading)

When Gaeda did animation he didnt use a manual nor simulation, instead he captured all the colors and textures and movment.
